What Makes Her Tic and Why You Will Love Working With Her!
In this edition of Wedding Pro Spotlight, Wedding DJ Michael Durham sat down with Katie Hannah of K Hannah Photography to find out the what’s and whys of her photography business. Let’s meet Katie.
She has been happily married to Cole, who also works with her, for eight years. They have two beautiful children, Maggie and Luke. They enjoy the outdoors; especially The Great Smoky Mountains and the couple are both responsible, avid hunters. Katie calls the mountains “her happy place.”
At age 14, her passion for photography was sparked by the gift of a film camera from her mother. From that moment on, Katie has always had a camera in her hands. She began K Hannah Photography; a professional, licensed, insured photography business located in East Tennessee near the mountains she loves, eight years ago. About four years ago, she made the decision to take her passion full-time. Notably, her business is also legally licensed to photograph events in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Katie says, “making the jump to full-time was a natural progression for me. It’s a really big deal to capture the important moments in people’s lives; not just the photos, but the very essence of the moments.” That is what drives Katie in business and why K Hannah Photography has enjoyed continued growth. Katie never approaches any two weddings the same, stating, “I shoot each wedding like it was my sister’s. I’m not there punching a time clock, and I’m always sensitive to mood and what’s important to the bride.”
Capturing the big moments is vital to every bride like the first look, walking down the aisle, etc., and this speaks to why Katie always works with one of her four exclusive, professional assistants. She loves to capture the bride’s Mom or Maid of Honor helping the bride put on her dress. She says, “those looks, those moments are some of my favorites.” Katie’s assistants also capture moments most brides don’t even know happen. “I love the reaction I get from my couples when they see the images they didn’t expect to see.” After speaking with Katie for just a few minutes, it was easy for me to see her passion for photography and her commitment to her couples.
To conclude the conversation with a twist, I asked Katie if there is anything she does not like about photographing someone’s wedding? She paused for a second, then wryly said, “sometimes I don’t get CAKE! I don’t like not getting any cake. Not getting any wedding cake is really the only downside to photographing a wedding. “Seriously though, capturing the biggest day in someone’s life is HUGE to me, I just love it. I’m so proud when couples tell me I made them so comfortable on their wedding day, and that we captured everything they wanted us to.”
Katie offers this advice to engaged couples to help make their wedding experience a better one: 1. Take the time to enjoy the process of planning. 2. Hire professionals that you are comfortable with; this will help you enjoy your experience more. 3. Cherish the day, the planning, and the time you spend with all of your wedding vendors.
